힘을 다루는 방식에는 익숙해졌지만, 능력을 사용할수록 자신의 기억이 조금씩 사라지고 있다는 걸 엘리시스는 눈치챘다.
처음엔 그저 한 가지 일에 몰두하고 있기 때문에 겪는 가벼운 건망증일 거라 생각했지만 의혹은 차츰 확신으로 굳어졌다.
엘리시스는 이 기억을 잃는 현상이 자신이 힘을 제대로 다루고 있지 못하기에 겪는 부작용일 거라 생각했다.

사소한 것부터 기억이 희미해지고, 이내 떠올리기 힘들 정도로 잃어 가면서 엘리시스는 소중한 가족과 동료들에 대한 기억도 잃어버리는 게 아닐까 두려워졌다.
내가 나라는 걸 기억하지 못하게 된다면, 그래도 여전히 그게 자신일 수 있을까?
불안감이 더욱 깊어져 마음을 온통 흐트러 놓았지만, 한편으론 이 모든 일이 운명처럼 느껴지기도 했다.

깨달음은 뭐라 특정하기 어려운 순간에 엘리시스를 찾아왔다.
기억하지 못한다 하더라도 몸은 알고 있다.
걷는 법을 잊어버릴 수 없는 것처럼 그간의 수련과 전투의 경험이 자신을 이끈다.
상대를 알아보지 못해도, 상대를 향한 감정은 뚜렷하게 남아 잊혀진 기억을 되살린다.

그거면 충분한 것 아닐까.
내 손으로 지키고 싶은 사람들. 그들이 위험에 처한다면 기억나지 않더라도 자신은 주저 없이 검을 들 것이다.
사라지는 건 기억일 뿐, 과거가 아니다. 내가 그들을 지켜내기만 한다면 기억과 관계없이 언젠가 다시 만나 이어질 것이다.
