In Elsword, equipment can be enhanced to increase their base stats. Most equipment will start without upgrades at enhancement level +0. However, some equipment found in dungeons or boxes can be enhanced at a random enhancement level, up to +9.
Enhancing Equipment
Equipment can be enhanced by a character with the Blacksmith profession or by a blacksmith NPC. Enhancing equipment will require ED and certain items, depending on the type of enhancement being performed.
Enhancement Types
Normal Enhancement
Normal Enhancement is the default process of enhancing equipment. This type of enhancement can be used for enhancing equipment of all enhancement levels. This type of enhancement will only require a Blessed Enhancement Stone to perform.
This enhancement will yield one of the following effects:
- +1 enhancement level

- Equipment will break and becomes unusable (This occurs only at enhancement level +8 and higher)

This enhancement will yield one of the following effects:
- +1 enhancement level
- No change
- Equipment will break and becomes unusable (This occurs only at enhancement level +8 and higher)
Special Enhancement
Special Enhancement is the last type of enhancement. This type of enhancement can only be used on equipment at enhancement levels +11 ~ +12. This type of enhancement will require the use of a Blessed Enhancement Stone and Blessed Fluorite Crystal.
This enhancement will yield one of the following effects:
- +1 enhancement level
- No change
- -1 enhancement level
- Equipment will break and becomes unusable

- Main Article: Profession System#Advanced Enhancement
Advanced Enhancement is a type of enhancement that can only be used by characters with the Blacksmith profession.
Magic Amulets
Magic Amulets are items that can automatically set a piece of equipment at an enhancement level equivalent to the level of the Amulet. These Amulets can be obtained from events, Ice Burners, and opening certain boxes.

Item Requirements
ED Cost
The cost of ED is dependent on the equipment's rarity and its reselling price at 100% durability. If the equipment is at enhancement level +9 or +10, the ED cost will be doubled. If the equipment is at enhancement level +11, the ED cost will be tripled.

Enhancement Materials
You can enhance items with the use of a Blessed Enhancement Stone. From +7 onwards however, the equipment may downgrade or reset, requiring an additional special item to prevent this from happening. The type of material needed to perform protected or special enhancement is dependent on the enhancement level of the equipment. Only 1 of both items is required to perform enhancement.
Enhancement Level | Protected Enhancement | Special Enhancement |
---|---|---|
+6 or below | N/A | N/A |
+7 to +10 | Blessed Fluorite Stone | N/A |
+11 or higher | N/A | Blessed Fluorite Crystal |
Blessed Restoration Scrolls
When a piece of equipment is destroyed when attempting to upgrade beyond +8, it will become unusable until it is restored through the use of a Blessed Restoration Scroll. You are capable of inserting a Blessed Restoration Scroll during the enhancement process, which will automatically prevent destruction should it occur.
Risks
When upgrading, you need to take caution that as you further upgrade your equipment, the risk of the item downgrading/breaking/resetting will increase.
From +2 → +3 onwards, the upgrade attempt may be unsuccessful, resulting in no change to the enhancement level.
From +7 → +8 onwards, the attempt may result in either a downgrade or a reset, the former of which will reduce the enhancement level by 1, such as dropping to +7 from +8, while the latter will reduce the enhancement level back to +0.
From +8 → +9 onwards, the attempt may result in a break. A broken piece of equipment can no longer be equipped or sold until it is fixed with a Blessed Restoration Scroll.
From +11 → +12 onwards, Blessed Fluorite Ores that prevent downgrading/resetting can no longer be used. Blessed Fluorite Crystals can only prevent resetting.

Increased Stats
By upgrading your items, the base stats will increase by a certain percentage. This does not include additional effects or socketed stats. Equipment can be enhanced up to enhancement level +13.
In addition to the increase in base stats, enhancement levels can also affect stats gained from Magic Stones. Magic Stones will have a higher chance of obtaining their maximum values if they are used on an equipment with a high enhancement level.

Visual Effects
If weapons are enhanced to high enhancement levels, they will receive special visual changes to their appearance when equipped. These changes will only affect weapons and are purely cosmetic. These changes will also be visible when a weapon costume is equipped.
At +5 and +6, weapons will gain a shine effect where light will shine over it periodically. At +7 and +8, a light flow effect will be active, shining the weapon with light constantly. At +9 and +10, the light flow effect will be enhanced to give the weapon a blue outline. At +11 and +12, weapons will periodically emit electric sparks. At +13, the weapon will begin to emit a red aura and the previous effects, excluding the sparks, will be colored red.

El's Hammer
The item El's Hammer is an optional item that can be used with any enhancement method except the old enhancement. The item will double the chance of getting a successful enhancement. However, the item will be consumed after it's used. Currently, the only ways to obtain an El's Hammer is through the weekly quest [Enhancement] Blessed Aura or certain events, while the Mysterious El Anvil from the Blacksmith profession grants the profession their own version of the hammers.

Old Versions
Enhancement
Before the Enhancement revamp on August 24, 2016 in NA (July 14, 2016 in KR), there was only one type of enhancement process that could be used. This older process can still be used if the player wishes to. This enhancement process requires a single Weapon or Armor Enhancement Stone per attempt to enhance an equipment. The enhancement stone needed is dependent on the level requirement of the equipment being enhanced. Fluorite Ores can also be used to improve the enhancement but this is completely optional.
As of February 8, 2017 in NA (February 9, 2017 in KR), the old enhancement process can only be done in Altera Village by Agatha. No other blacksmith can access this enhancement type.
Additionally, prior to the Enhancement revamp on August 18th, 2021 in NA, all types of enhancement required the use of multiple enhancement stones and fluorite stones or crystals, depending on the enhancement level of the equipment. Typically, Enhancement Events would then reduce these costs to just 1, which has since become the default.

Trivia
- Due to being highly sought after items, high level Magic Amulets are sometimes used as the basis of pranks during April Fools events.
- A fake Enhancement Amulet Lvl.13 was offered as a 2016 April Fools gift. The description states the amulet is just a normal piece of paper with the number 13 scribbled on it.
- A set of 4 [4/1 Special] Magic Amulet lv. 12 were handed out during the 2019 April Fools event. Right-clicking it would consume it to activate the Too Good to be True buff, which would boost your weapon power to that of a +12 weapon for 10 minutes.
- Enhancement server buffs do not scale with additional attack increases such as Mystic Stones, they are solely an increase of the base stat.
