Having a duo character play-style, players can either defeat enemies with strong demonic magic with the melee Lu, or with quick slashes and gun shots as the ranged Ciel or utilize both to chain numerous combos.

Special Ability

Main Article: Switching
Users can play as either Lu or Ciel in both towns and dungeons, and change between them whenever they want. Depending on the user's preference, it is even possible to play only as Lu or Ciel all the way until the end, but it will be more fun and effective to change between characters depending on the situation. No cooldown is implemented into the exchange mechanism. You battle as whoever you want at any time. And its designed so it's possible to get both characters to fight together if you gather enough resources.

Background

Lu
Lu was one of the demon lords that supported the Demon Realm, but because of her subordinate's betrayal, she lost all her powers and was sealed away for a long time.
In a last ditch effort, she undid the seal and escaped to Elrios but due to the immense consumption of mana required for jumping into Elrios, her appearance turned into that of a child. After her contract with Ciel, she starts to track down demons invading Elrios in order to regain her power and status.

Ciel
Lu's bodyguard and butler.
An Assassin famous in the criminal underworld. After Lu had escaped from the Demon world by using the rest of her power, Ciel finds the girl lying unconscious on the ground. He nurses her back to health and accompanies her. However, demon assassins that have been hunting down Lu kill Ciel. Noticing his determination to live in his dying breaths, Lu forges a contract with him where he must become her servant. Out of gratitude and compassion, Ciel gladly accepts, reviving as a half-demon. He aligns his cause with Lu's and travels with her until her goals are completed.

Being a duo character with a tag-team playstyle, Lu and Ciel do not share mana and also have a special system known as Combination.

• When either Lu or Ciel is tagged out, the inactive character will rapidly recover 15 MP per second (6 MP in PvP). The amount of mana the other character has can be seen in the third blue gauge in the UI.

• To compensate for this, Lu and Ciel's skills are low in damage and have high mana costs. This is to encourage players to keep switching between the two in order to maximize damage.
• Lu and Ciel have a fourth resource known as the Combination Gauge.
  • This resource is used exclusively for Combination Skills such as Soul Infest. Combination skills cost no mana, but can only be used when the combination gauge is ready.
• The combination gauge has eight empty slots.
  • One slot is filled every time the player switches through a normal combo attack.
  • Two or more slots are filled every time the player switches through a skill.

• Lu and Ciel shares equipment but do not share costumes nor accessories.
  • Buying one B-slot will apply to both characters.
• This is announced to be the first and only duo character in Elsword.
• The symbol of a four pointed star is a recurring motif in Lu and Ciel's design.
• An interview releasing information about the duo had implied that Lu and Ciel are comparatively weak when played individually, and stated that it is optimal to utilize them both in gameplay to cover for each other's weaknesses.
• Ciel is obsessed with anything cute.
  • He adores phorus especially, with Elsword even commenting on his phoru pajamas.
• Ciel is shown to be a skilled baker and has a vast knowledge of herbs that rivals those of elves, according to Rena.
