On Translations of Skill Notes

I have to admit that the note translations are not absolutely 100% so if anyone fufils the criteria below, feel free to change or improve the translations. If you are unhappy with the current translation/name and want to change it, fufil the criteria below and create a topic here and explain why, unless it is a very minor/insignificant change or edit. (Remember to leave your wiki name by hitting the Signature button so we know who is doing what.)

1. Be faithful to the original text. If you find or translate with better words without losing the text's original and intended meaning, you have fulfilled this condition.

2. OR, if the NA server has released an accurate translation of the note, use the name that the English server provides...

Example: Talk:Raven_Weapon

It sounding awkward is not a valid reason UNLESS you can rephrase the name without it losing it's ORIGINAL and INTENDED meaning. If you do not know how to translate the name, please leave the Korean/Japanese/German etc. name for translation through other users.

Through these new rules, I hope we can cöoperate stop the unnecessary undo/reversion nonsense and makes some actual progress.

Thank you.

Though, the NA version isn't always correct, they themselves said that they faced trials with the names and description and had to shorten them. And of course, this will happen, such as english is sometimes much longer than spanish. For example, Darness names the Bandit Bendosoeu(or something around that, in NA it's Banthus, they're kind of similar but I doubt it's the real translation, though I may be wrong, Verde is also another example, almost the same but there's been other koreans calling it Verde. But I digress, I believe the rules are understandable and fair.

Organization of Notes

idek who cares about this, but the current organization of notes (listing everything under the exact class the note is used by, including shared notes) seems incredibly messy to me. 2nd Jobs don't need an entire tab dedicated to them when they only have 1 note that isn't a 1st Job skill, and shared skills are not only unnecessarily repeated but also inconsistent in doing so (why is Bogus Contract listed under a universal "2nd Jobs" tab while Tranquility/Effective Attack Methods is listed three times under each Elesis 1st job?). SO, I'm taking it upon myself to combine these into something a bit more coherent.

Under the new setup: skills shared by all classes of a character will be listed under Base with class requirements (ex. 1st Job Change, 2nd Job Change) listed along with the level requirement. 1st and 2nd Jobs will be combined into one tab. Not gonna bother putting job requirements for class-specific notes because most people don't stay 1st Job anyway (and if they do they can figure it out themselves, it's not hard to do basic math). Looks kinda messy to have "1st/2nd Job" listed next to everything when it only actually applies to a handful of skills.

If anyone objects, feel free to give your reasoning.

Skill Notes, Renewal Update

I was going to look at a skill note I wanted and went to see its effects, when suddenly I saw that the table showing all the skill notes got deleted because of the KR renewal update..

There's still other servers like NA that have skill notes, and this page made it very convenient to check on what the effects were, etc.. there's no need to delete the skill notes right now.

  • The table was not deleted. The wiki is having a technical issue with the tabs template. Rokujou (talk) 15:18, 29 September 2015 (CEST)
