Before Joining 1

The boy finds himself soon to take the entrance exam for the El Search Party. He visits now vacant home as he prepares to take his first step. He's tasked with seeking out a device within the forest but is impeded by a monster. The device is broken but the boy manages to discover another much older device with faint traces of El. When Lowe learned of what the boy had done, he was shocked to see what the boy had uncovered. Exceeding all expectation, the boy was accepted into the El Search Party.

Description

The boy thinks back to his past with an important test ahead of him.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  • Thump! Thump! Thump! And... Thump! That should be enough. Elsword wiped the sweat off his forehead and looked around his home.
  • A small cottage in the forest away from the village used to be his family home, but will soon be empty.
  • Seeing all the doors and windows sealed with wooden panels made him feel bittersweet.
  • Elsword thought about when his father first left. Did he smile as he waved because he was proud of his father leaving to defend the Kingdom?
  • What he thought was a short farewell extended to 4 years. And soon it was his sister's turn to leave.
  • After they left, Elsword remembers thinking how strange it was that the house felt smaller. Should it feel bigger now that there's less people?
  • With no one greeting him no matter which door he opens, he just stopped going there. As he didn't turn on the lights, the corners of the house was swallowed in darkness. Though the house was the same, he occupied less and less space.
  • It didn't take long for frustration to turn into isolation. The boy thought the house was imprisoning him.
  • Whenever he was troubled by his mind, he pushed himself to train more. As if he can physically cut all the thoughts that are tormenting him.
  • But now, it will be different. He will be taking the final exam needed to join the El Search Party. His sister also started at the El Search Party to become a knight. He will soon follow her path.
  • Clearing the house and sealing all the doors and windows were symbolic gestures of his determination. That he will join the El Search Party no matter what, and escape this lonely house.
  •   Elsword: I'm going to catch up. The El Search Party is only the beginning.
  • Elsword promised himself as he left his home... with a familiar sword in his hand.

Description

The boy faces an unforeseen danger.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  •   Lowe: Until the sunset. If you don't come back by then, we'll go look for you, and you will fail the test. Any more questions?
  •   Elsword: That's it?
  •   Lowe: Yes. Did you expect something more exciting?
  •   Lowe: The El Search Party does exactly what the name suggests. We search the El. No matter how strong you are, if you can't sense the El, you can't be a member of the El Search Party!
  •   Elsword: Well, if I only have to find it, it shouldn't be that hard. I won't even need a weapon.
  •   Lowe: What? A swordsman without a sword? Besides, it might be harder than you expect. It will be difficult to sense the power of the El energy device when we're so close to the El Tree.
  •   Elsword: If you don't want to fail and take the test again, you'll have to try your best!

  • BEEEP-! With the sound of the whistle, Elsword ran into the forest. He was going to set a new record for finishing the final test fastest.

  • Everything was fine when he chased the faint El energy deep into the forest. He was able to find the device without difficulty as well.
  • The problem was, that the one holding that device was a monster he hasn't seen before.

  •   Elsword: Hey, if you want to join the El Search Party, you should have filled out the forms first!
  •   Elsword: Darn, Lowe didn't say anything about this... Is this part of the test?
  •   Elsword: No, I don't think so. I never heard about a monster with a nasty aura like this. What do I do? Should I go back and tell them?
  •   Elsword: But...
  •   Elsword: ...'
  •   Elsword: Big Sis wouldn't have run away from an enemy.
  •   Elsword: I wanted to join the El Search Party to be like that. I can't run now!
  • Elsword gripped his sword tightly. The monster was looking at the device, not caring about his audience. It placed its head close to the device, as if it was sniffing.
  •   Elsword: I'll show them I can do just as well as my sister!

Description

The boy finds something while he struggles.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  •   Elsword: Pant... pant...
  • Elsword leaned on his sword and slowly got up. The monster was tougher than it looked. Even though the monster wasn't that smart, it was strong and fast, which made defeating it difficult.
  • His side where he was hit by the monster hurt. His legs were sore, and he felt like he twisted an ankle. Elsword looked nervously at the sky as it slowly turned crimson.
  •   Elsword: The sun will set at this rate. I have to go now, if I don't want to be late...
  •   Elsword: Hey! What are you doing!!
  • With a sound of a crack, the device that the monster was holding broke. With how much interest it was showing for the device even during during the fight, it was no surprise that the monster would break the device.
  •   Elsword: Would it be alright to take a broken device? Ugh, but I need to take care of that monster first...!
  • He felt defeat slowly taking over his anxious mind. Was he not even capable of following his sister's footsteps?
  • But even so!
  •   Elsword: Do you know what I had to do to come this far?
  • He was not just going to let the monster get away. He can always retake the exam, but that monster had to go down.
  • As Elsword got ready to charge at the monster, something caught his eye. It was a bush. An ordinary bush no different from any other bush.
  • Captivated, Elsword reached underneath the branches and slightly scooped the earth. There was something stuck buried under the bush. When he took it out, he noticed it was an old wooden ball.
  • Elsword gripped the ball and threw it at the monster that was taking the device apart.
  • Smack! With a clear hit, the monster's head tilted backwards.
  •   Elsword: Why don't you take this, too? You want it, don't you?
  • With the monster distracted, Elsword smirked and gripped his sword again. And charged towards the monster with everything he's got.

Description

The time is nigh but the boy has yet to show.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  • Lowe stared nervously at the setting sun. It was almost time. If he delayed any longer, the forest will be too dark for the search, and the candidate would be left alone in the forest.
  • When he opened his mouth to announce the end of the test, he heard the rustling of the buses. Lowe inwardly smiled.
  • It was before he ordered the search, so it should be a pass. As long as he has the device.
  • Just as he was about to sigh in relief, Lowe was startled to notice the state Elsword was in. He was injured all over as if he rolled down a cliff, and he was limping.
  •   Lowe: What happened? You look like Phorus ran you over.
  •   Elsword: I saw a monster I've never seen before in the forest. It was about to take the device.
  •   Lowe: A monster?
  • Lowe frowned slightly. Fighting against a monster was not part of the test. And one Elsword has never seen before? Is that why he's injured?
  •   Elsword: I can tell from your face. I knew that wasn't part of the exam. It's fine! I took care of it. Take this.
  • Elsword added awkwardly as he handed the broken device and the small El stone that was inside it to Lowe.

  • Lowe didn't know what to say. Even if there were unforeseen circumstances, with a device in pieces like this... If this was an actual El, the mission would have failed. The result was clearly a fail.
  • As Lowe scratched his head, he noticed that Elsword was holding something in his opposite hand.
  •   Lowe: What's that?
  •   Elsword: Oh, I found this in the forest too... It's so old, so it probably has nothing to do with my test. I just brought it because I sensed the El energy.
  •   Lowe: ...
  • Lowe could not believe his eyes as he looked at the old wooden ball. It was a device that they failed to retrieve a long time ago. The model was no longer used due to frequent malfunction.
  • The device had soil all over, as if it was buried underneath the ground, and was otherwise covered in moss. Plus...
  • The El energy that was inside the device seemed to have escaped a long time ago.
  •   Lowe: You felt El energy from this?
  •   Elsword: What are you waiting for? I failed the test, right? Just put me out of my misery.
  • Lowe finally opened his mouth.
  •   Lowe: ... I have to contact the higher ups, so the result is postponed! For now, you head to the dorms and have someone take care of your injuries!
  •   Elsword: What? Why? I thought you told the results on the spot!
  •   Lowe: We do, but this is an exception. I'll tell you the results in a few days, so wait until then.
  •   Elsword: Ahh! If I knew this would happen, I wouldn't have nailed everything!
  •   Lowe: Nailed?
