The two almost complete their research.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  • It wasn't the best, but this was the best we could do.
  • Even though we may not succeed, it was amazing that rookie magicians like us could make meaningful results.
  • Lithia: I hope Joy is happy with what we've done...
  • I took out my Chrysona and placed it at the center of the magic circle. Mathi checked around to make sure everything was fine. The preparations have been made.
  • We breathed slowly, closed our eyes, and slowly pushed our mana into the circle.
  • We could tell that the circle was reacting. We first felt it with the ends of our hands and soon, with our entire bodies.
  • We slowly opened our eyes. Wow, Mathi let out a breath of excitement. We could see a sliver of line at the center of our circle. It was the Rift!
  • I shouted in excitement.
  • Lithia: We did it... We did it! We did it!
  • Then, the ground shook with a great rumble.
  • Earthquake? It felt different. Instead of the ground shaking, it felt as if something was knocking from underground.
  • (Riiiip!)
  • And it seemed that I fainted.
  • ... ... ... ....
  • When I came to senses, I was lying on my bed. Joy and Felix were by my sides with worried looks.
  • Joy: I'm glad you're safe. I was so worried...
  • Lithia: Joy... Felix...?
  • The two continued to grab my hands and caressed my cheeks and hair as they apologized.
  • I felt weak, as if stricken with fever. My head was burning slightly, but I was happy that the two cared for me.
  • Felix: Stay in bed, Lithia, you need to rest and get better.
  • I took to their words and stayed in bed. Even though it didn't hurt, my body felt heavy and I couldn't get up for a while.
  • Thinking about that now... it was a form of aftereffect of healing, a sort of healingache.
  • Neither Joy nor Felix asked what happened that day. They didn't explain what happened after either.
  • I had nothing to do while lying in bed, so I wanted to ask Mathi, but Mathi never came. I heard that Mathi lay in bed because he fell sick as well.
  • I heard he was better off than me, but he refused to eat food and grew weak because of it. It seemed that opening the Rift had great side effects on both of us.
  • As I laid in bed, I could overhear great sighs and talks from the other side of the door. Sometimes it were from Joy and Felix, but sometimes it was from others.
  • Melinda: Why did you do it....
  • Melinda criticized Joy and said that she had to take a certain position... I couldn't understand what she meant. Even though she sounded reproachful, I could feel that she pitied Joy.
  • I would have felt that I was excluded from all this before, but as I lay in bed, I changed.
  • Joy stopped her work to take care of me and Felix was always by my side. I pampered all I could and realized how much they had loved me.
  • Lithia: I'm sorry Joy, for stealing your work... I... I was scared that Joy would leave with Felix and leave me behind.
  • Joy: I would never do that. Lithia, you're my beloved family.

  • I hugged Joy tightly, delighted by her affectionate response.
  • Lithia: Hee hee! Thanks. But Joy, you want to go to the Demon Realm, right? I'm all right now.
  • Lithia: Even if I'm separated... you'll love me, right? That's all that matters for me.

  • Joy: Lithia...
  • Joy: ......
  • I soon recovered enough to get out of my bed. The two would go on short trips to perk my curiosity, celebrating my recovery.
  • I learned a lot from them. How to light up fire, how to find ways in the forest, where I could camp, and magics to repel wild animals.
  • The trips would be short as a day, or sometimes days. I had fun...
  • ... but thinking about it now, it was all training.
  • I was too young to realize why they had such gloom expressions on their faces when they said let's not unpack since we might have to leave again.
  • And that... is how our short-lived peace ended.

The girl asks for assistance from those around her to save her family.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  • Felix: Lithia! You can't go!
  • I shook off Felix's hands and sprinted as fast as I could. I knew not where to go, but my feet carried me in my desperation to seek help.
  • Early dawn, just as the morning sun slowly illuminated the dark skies, I arrived at Landar Camp.
  • (Ram! Ram! Ram! Ram! Ram!)
  • Lithia: Help! They're taking Joy away! Please help!
  • I slammed on the door and asked for help.
  • I could hear commotion and soon I was able to see Melinda with a worrisome look. I felt relief wash over me.
  • Lithia: Huh? What? What do you mean you can't help?
  • Melinda: Lithia... Joy did something of the unspeakable. Not only did she conduct forbidden research, but she even summoned a monster.
  • Melinda: It's not just about the damage the monster caused. Too many eyes saw what happened... Lithia, we can't do anything about that.
  • Lithia: The village...? Monster...?
  • From the forgotten memories... I could recall something leap out of the Rift. That was forbidden? A monster came out of the Rift...? Then... Then...
  • Lithia: That happened because of me!
  • Melinda: Lithia...
  • Lithia: I opened the Rift! Joy had nothing to do with this!
  • Lithia: I am the one who should be taken away! Please save Joy!
  • Melinda: Shh! You can't say such words! Never ever say that anywhere!
  • Melinda: Sigh... why did Joy resort to such measures leaving this young child behind...
  • I knew that she couldn't help at all. Even the magician family with the kingdom's support could not defend the magician who dared research forbidden magic.
  • Melinda: Don't cry. We can take care of you.
  • As a child who had no clue what was happening, I did not understand anything.
  • Ah, these people have no intentions to save Joy. That's all I could think of.
  • They had praised Joy so much, they received so much help from Joy, and they were so close to Joy. But when I heard that they couldn't help Joy, I took that as betrayal.
  • I backed off from the extended hand and ran off in case they would grab me. I could hear them calling my name and running after me, but soon their sounds trailed off.
  • I ran away for now... but I had nowhere to go. My feet went to the forest where Mathi and I did our research together that day.
  • I had visited the forest for the first time after that day. It was tranquil as if nothing had happened.
  • All the magic circles we drew, all the books we used for research... They were all gone. All that was left were small desks and toys. Joy or Felix probably wiped off every evidence in here.
  • It could not be helped, but watching all our ardor gone hollowed out my heart.
  • Then, I found a well-folded paper under the tree stump that I often sat.
  • When I opened the piece of paper pinned down to the ground with a rock, I found Mathi's letter.
  • I'm sorry, It's all my fault... Mathi's apology and asking for forgiveness was blotched with his tears.
  • Lithia: ... Idiot. You really think I'm mad at you?
  • Lithia: Actually, yeah! I'm mad at you! How could you not visit me once while I was so sick!
  • Lithia: Ugh, uugh, uuuh... uh...
  • My tears ran down and blotched the already wrinkled letter.
  • It feels so hard... And yet you only left a letter!
  • Lithia: Sniffle, sniffle... Uwaaaaah!

Description

After wandering in despair, the girl finally gets to reunite with some of her family.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  • ... I can't remember what happened after. I think I just walked forever. I slept watching the skies and ate nothing, but I never grew hungry.
  • I think I lost it after such loss and despair.
  • But somehow, with amazing luck, I was able to reunite with Felix.
  • (Grab)
  • Felix: Lithia! I'm so glad... So glad...
  • Felix: I couldn't bear to think what could have happened if you went... I... I...
  • Felix was just as broken as I was. Felix probably looked all over for me. Felix couldn't afford to be seen by other humans, so he probably had to take roads less traveled.
  • Lithia:' Sniffle, sniffle... I'm sorry Felix...
  • After our short relief of reunion, we had to walk again. We weren't welcome anywhere, and any human-inhabited areas were off-limits for us.
  • A lot has changed in my life with Felix. We continued to hide and never stayed long in one place.
  • Especially after I overcame the loss of Joy and started to learn magics again.
  • We rarely ever came in contact with people, unless it was me selling what we had hunted in the village to get essentials.
  • But I felt stability in such a life. I could stay with family and Felix taught a great deal of things not just pertaining to magic.
  • But Felix wasn't so satisfied. Felix probably didn't like how he was the reason I stayed away from other humans and living an antisocial life.
  • He obviously came to that conclusion. Ever since I lost Joy, I dared not get close to other humans, was frightened of soldiers, and openly hated other magicians.
  • Felix: Landar would have taken you in. Why did you reject their offer?
  • Lithia:' What do you mean why. I don't want to be near them. They never helped Joy!
  • Felix: At least you have friends there. You can learn magic with them.
  • Lithia:' But I have Felix. Felix, you can teach me magics. hey're quite odd though...
  • Felix: Other magics are too dangerous for you. Anyhow, aren't they fun? I thought kids would like that stuff.
  • I laughed, watching Felix crumple his face in a lack of understanding. I was always grateful to Felix.
  • For a long time, I couldn't pick up magic out of guilt. Felix finally persuaded me with the 'magics of demons'. I finally got enough will to lift myself out of the mess I was in.
  • All magics that Felix taught me were low in potency and laughable. I knew that Felix was only trying to perk my attention and didn't want to teach me anything serious. But I was still content with it.
  • Lithia:' Felix treats me too much like a child. Hee hee, anyway! I enjoy spending time with Felix.
  • Felix probably thought a great deal with the answer I gave him.
  • After some years, Felix carefully suggested living separately.
  • I knew Felix would ask me that from a long time ago, so I wasn't really shocked when I heard it. Anyhow, I have grown in my long days of wandering.
  • At least, I was able to notice that the things Felix taught me were for my independence.
  • Felix: ... I'm a demon. You might be in danger because of me.
  • Lithia:' (Yes, my presence would weigh down on Felix as a burden.)
  • Felix: You're a human, so you will be more safe and happy with other humans.
  • Lithia:' (I remind Felix of Joy, which pains him greater. If I stay next to Felix, it will only make it harder for Felix.)
  • Felix: Joy... would have never been in that situation... if it weren't for me.
  • I wish he just blamed me. It was all my fault.
  • Felix: If you end up like Joy... I... I can't bear that.
  • I forced myself into a smile and answered okay. Felix and I are family, but we're of different races. We're living in the same world, yet we're living different times.
  • To demons, humans would appear to grow in a day. So, if I can stand my ground, he'll think that I'm a grown-up that can be independent.
  • Lithia:' I'm all right, but I'm concerned about Felix~ Felix is quite clumsy, so I'm not sure if he can be all right on his own.
  • Lithia:' Thank you for all you have done for me. Stay safe until we meet again, okay?
  • After we exchanged our farewells, we walked in the opposite direction. Felix went deeper into the woods and I walked out into the bright sky and walked on the roads.
  • I think I will never forget... that moment.
  • Afterwards, I took up requests, stayed at a place to work, or study to keep myself busy. However, I never socialized with other humans like Felix wanted me to.
  • I just... saw them as unnecessary and disliked such activities. I was uneasy amidst others and became restless without purpose. I lived to continue on the research that Joy could not complete due to my shortcomings.
  • And one day, I received a request from an academic society.
  • ... And I took up that request.

  • Clear 5 dungeons within level range (excluding Ruben/Henir/Ereda)
Description

The girl's friend recollects and regrets that day.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  • Mathi frantically swept his hair that stuck onto his face off to the side as he felt the floors with his other arm. His vision was blurred. Maybe that shock had thrown him somewhere.
  • Although his vision was blurred, he could remember clearly. After the circle was completed, something ripped open the Rift, jumped out in a flash, and rushed downhill.
  • It wasn't difficult for him to realize that something had gone wrong. He was able to find his glasses, but with trembling body, it took him multiple tries to get his glasses on.

  • Mathi: Lithia... Ugh, are you okay? You're not hurt...
  • Mathi: ...! Li... Lithia...?

  • It was a horrifying sight to behold. An unknown black liquid all over the place as if someone had spilled the night sky. And in the center of it all, lay Lithia.
  • Mathi tried to wake up Lithia and shook her lightly. Her body was limp with no strength. Her body felt like the dead animal carcasses that he studied. A chill ran down his spine.
  • Ah...
  • Mathi: Ah... Ah... Ahhh...?
  • His hands were red.
  • Mathi, unable to realize himself, frantically wiped off his hands with his clothes. It was as if his hands were caked in mud.
  • But the red liquid on his hands never really could be wiped off. The viscous, unpleasant red paint was blubbling off from his hands, where his clothes had torn, his forehead, and Lithia.
  • Mathi: L, Li, Lithia!!
  • Screaming, Mathi grabbed Lithia. He couldn't even fathom how dep the wounds ran. Everything was red and dark.
  • Mathi: W,wha, what should I do...! What should I do?
  • Mathi: It's all right... It's all right. I can heal her. She will surely be cured...!
  • His hands shook uncontrollably. The bright red blood contrasted with his pale hands seemed so absurd under the pale moonlight.
  • Mathi endlessly casted healing spells, but it all felt unreal as if his hands weren't his. Mathi was scared to death out of worry that he might exacerbate Lithia's conditions.
  • Believing that Lithia's wounds were too great for her to survive, Mathi used every magic in his knowledge.
  • Mathi's mana quickly ran out and fatigue swept over him. Blood started to trickle out of his nose but he cared not.
  • Mathi: What... What is this?
  • Mathi took a look at Lithia's wounds and was horrified. He could see blue blotches smearing across Lithia's body.
  • Mathi: Infection? Did my magic cause this? All because of me...
  • Mathi: Ah, Ahhh... Ah...
  • Lithia: ......
  • Mathi: W, wait! I will bring other adults! I'll be back! Just you wait! Got it?
  • There were no replies.
  • ... ... ... ...
  • Mathi rammed on Beryl mansion's door but no response came from it. Joy seemed to be away. But, Mathi knew Joy had another family living in secrecy.
  • (Ram Ram Ram Ram)
  • Mathi: Felix! Felix! You're inside, right? Help!
  • The door opened as Felix greeted Mathi. Felix quickly bent over the moment he realized what state Mathi was in.
  • Felix: You're hurt! What happened!
  • Mathi: It's not my blood! Lithia, Lithia is...!
  • Felix: What? Wait, you're hurt too! What's going on... Lithia? Calm down and explain!
  • Felix calmed Mathi down as he wrapped Mathi's wounds. Mathi had gone pale from losing quite a bit of blood. His body was cold even though he had run uphill all along.
  • Felix soon learned what happened as he massaged the arms and cheeks of Mathi, worn out and out of breath from sprinting.
  • Felix: So the monster that leaped out from the Rift attacked you and headed toward the village?
  • Felix took a sight down the hill. There were houses lit in town. It seemed that nothing out of the ordinary had happened.
  • Felix knew he was not welcome here. He was an invader into the lands to conquer it.
  • To him, the livelihood of humans matter not except those close to him. The death of hundreds of humans would mean nothing to him.
  • ... But those close to him that he loved... They're different.
  • Felix: It seemed that the bleeding has somewhat stopped. Mathi, listen closely. Joy will be out in the backyard. Go tell her what happened and go save Lithia, okay?
  • Mathi: W, what about you, Felix?
  • Felix: I will get rid of the monster. Don't worry. I can take care of it. Leave it to me and Joy!
  • Felix rushed downhill. Mathi ran toward where Felix had told him. The blood on his clothes and body were slowly drying.
  • The blood on his clothes and body turned black. As he clenched his fist, the scabs fell off his skin like worn-out leather.
  • Mathi: Lithia... Lithia... I'm sorry! What if my magics were wrong? It's all my fault.
  • If only I didn't egg you on... This would have never happened.
  • We'd just continue our daily routines... play as usual, fight each other for stupid reasons, say goodbye, and head back home...
  • Mathi could see the backyard. Joy, seeing Mathi, was waving at him. Her hands swayed so innocently, her smile so exuberant, not knowing the tragedy that awaited her.
  • Mathi couldn't bear to relay the news of Lithia as he watched her bright expression.
  • Mathi thought that he will never be free from the feelings and guilt of this moment.
