This costume set was one of the first to be designed by a non-company artist, PiKA (피카보살), excluding those from the Costume Contest. Royal Butterfly is additionally the second costume set designed by PiKA, with the first being ELS Office Wear.
PiKA has also drawn skill cut-ins for each character - one in each color palette - which are available to purchase from the Item Mall.

The set is likely a reference to Zhuang Zhuo's famous poem, The Butterfly Dream.
This costume set was featured in El Trend Volume 2 and El Trend Volume 2.5.
