① Dungeon result screen UI revamp
– Dungeon result screen UI was revamped in 9/04 maintenance. You can see much more detailed dungeon information in the new clear screen.

② Time Tracer, Diabolic Esper changes and revamps
– Time Tracer and Diabolic Esper’s skill and effects were revamped in 9/18,9/25 maintenance. Go to update boards for more details.

– Sent us an opinion that there are too many cubes and it would be nice if the time spent opening the cubes was reduced.

Last August 21st, KOG’s action RPG ‘Elsword’ updated a new 2nd job called ‘Crimson Avenger’ for their character Elesis. To promote their new update, Elsword team attended the Seoul Comic world event during the 23rd and 24th for a meeting with its fans.
‘Elsword’ booth was decorated with Crimson Avenger as the theme. The booth was extremely popular to the extent where over 3 thousand people gathered near the booth 2 hours before the event started.  What kind of character is this Crimson Avenger that was the center of attention for this event? To find out more we went to the Seoul Comic world site to met with KOG’s development team leader Gwon-Oh-Dang.

  • This is Elsword’s first time participating in Seoul Comic world. How do you feel?
Development team leader:  We were worried that we might interrupt users in having fun but I felt relieved after seeing users having fun carrying around ‘Elesis’ giant pillows. Since there are many ‘Elsword’ fans and players that come to this event, we plan to come here more regularly.
  • Comic World event is held in both Seoul and Busan. Do you plan to attend the Busan Comic World as well?
Development team leader: Development team did visit Busan Comic World during 16th and 17th. We enjoyed the event by buying items sold from the booth and such. Before this year, we used to visit Comic World Elsword user booths to cheer them on and buy them snacks. We plan to continue being observant for the events like these from now on. If possible, we want to appear in Busan Comic World as well.
  • Even before the booth opened, Over 3000 users gathered around the ‘Elsword’ booth. How did it feel?
Development team leader: I felt very thankful. I wanted to give something to every user who visited the booth but couldn’t do so due to material shortages. The event continues in the 24th and we are still giving out gifts so I hope users continue to visit and give their attention.
  • Elesis ‘Crimson Avenger’ was updated on the 21st. Introduce her for the users who haven’t met her yet. 
Development team leader: ‘Crimson Avenger’ is Elesis’s third 2nd job. Her play style differs from other Elesis jobs in that she deals damage by using up her HP. She battles by alternating between her Chivalry systems Annihilation and Gale. These two system modes have effects that absorb or recover HP so it is important to play managing these two modes.
Because of this, Elesis players have a high gap between Pro and Newer players depending on their control. Scenario wise, Crimson Avenger’s setting is that of Elesis losing her fellow Knights due to demon ambush and even Elesis herself dying and reviving. She was once a bright and chivalrous knight but after accepting the demon’s powers she staked everything on revenge. Thus she has a more violent personality. Users that weren’t satisfied with the older Elesis jobs will like this Elesis with a newer concept.
  • What were the user reactions after ‘Crimson Avenger’ was released?
Development team leader:  Response was great despite the update being released after the Summer Break. Opinions of the users is that the Crimson Avenger’s playstyle is worth researching. Also, satisfaction ratings on the Crimson Avenger’s image was very high.
  • Before ‘Crimson Avenger’ was released, there were already gameplay videos of her inside 1st job ‘Dark Knight’ promotion videos. This got  many users guessing. Did you guys plan for this?
Development team leader: Some details were revealed unintentionally while some were intentional. It was to build up the expectations of the users for the 2nd job by showing them new information. Before, the 1st and 2nd classes were released together. However for this summer update, releasing 1st and 2nd classes by 1 week intervals was a strategic decision to build up expectations for the new jobs.
  • Unlike other jobs ‘Crimson Avenger’ uses Chivalry system. There are opinions that the Character is difficult to use because its hard to manage the system.
Development team leader: It is true that Elesis’s Chivalry system is hard to manage. But even if you don’t exactly know what the system does, it does not cause any inconveniences when playing.  Still, we are working on revamps to address the issue of Chivalry system being hard to manage. We plan to change Chivalry system so users can make easy use of the system on the 28th update.
  • There are some dissatisfaction regarding ‘Crimson Avenger’s’ skill balance. What are your thoughts on this?
Development team leader: Development team is observing the situation with the users. The Crimson Avenger Skill revamp update is on the 28th. Also additional balance changes will be made gradually.
  • Can you give us an introduction on Add update that’s coming up in September?
Development team leader:  Add’s new job that will appear in September update will have a scenario from the past as his background. It’s a story about how Add gains an ability to jump between time and space and works towards on fixing his unfortunate past. It’s hard to reveal any more but, since he can freely control Time and Space, this new Add will feel very ‘freely controlled’ for the users. It would be alright to have  high expectations for this job.
  • Last words for ‘Elsword’ users?
Development team leader: From the start I wanted one thing. To provide for the current users that enjoy Elsword, a game that they can play proudly and to have them meet with even more new friends inside the game. I worked towards releasing characters and contents that cannot be seen in other games. Through more updates, I will continue to work hard so many friends can play and enjoy ‘Elsword’.

① Ban the use of Bar-code names! The voice of adventurer 쪼렙킬러NO1

– The In game name that is made using only capital ‘I’ or lower case ‘l’, aka bar-code names!

These names were hard to differentiate and thus there were many ill-mannered players using these kinds of names.

Suggestion is to ban the use of these names using font revamps or preventing the use of same characters in names for certain times in a row.

First, Let’s check out the suggestions that were implemented.

① Ara new 1st and 2nd class planned for release
– We always get a lot of suggestions for new classes! New classes are planned to be released this Summer break!

② Customizing System
– Character customizing system where you can change your character’s standing motion was added.

③ Character Balance Revamp
– The final character balance revamp was implemented. We’ll continue to consider your suggestions on balances from now on too.

④ Fixed error where Trock Lair miniboss couldn’t die.

– There was a problem in Trock Lair dungeon where ‘Burning Fogwata’ miniboss couldn’t die. This problem was fixed in 2014 07/04 client patch.

⑤ Fixed error where secret dungeon weapon effects wasn’t working.

– This was fixed in 2014 7/10 maintenance.

⑥ Added feature to easily search for item parts in Magical Wardrobe

– Now you can filter items of only one single part but clicking on the part you want to filter in the preview screen.

“Wolf Fang art and Hyper active were actually summoning type skills. I always thought Wolf Fang art’s final form should have been creating a wolf with spirit energy…ㅠ_ㅠ, the plan was changed into Maharaurava(HA) and when I heard her say ‘can you handle this’ in the skill, all my regrets disappeared.

“Can’t look forwards to April fools with max Dark Flame Dragon now… yea….”

-This doesn’t apply for players with  internet speed so good that they can PvP with Koreans almost perfectly with no distance lag.-

But for you players that experience noticeable distance lag during your matches against Korean players, I highly recommend that you all restrain yourselves from at least playing in random arena matching more than necessary amounts.

As some of you might know. Korean server implemented IP block for certain countries few days ago. While exact reason for this block is still unknown, it is suspected that Nexon is starting to cut off all the countries that don’t earn them enough money to justify having the local Koreans dissatisfied with the game because of foreigners with annoying distance lag.

Due to the recent ‘End of PvP Season 2’ event, the amount of reports and discussions about foreigners with distance lag ruining their PvP experience has become uncomfortably high in the Korean Elsword communities.

Before, this wasn’t much of an issue as foreigners in the Arena was something more like an Epic NPC encounters to them. (Although more annoying in higher ranking matches). However due to this recent event, amount of foreigners queuing up for Arena has risen considerably, and along with it, the amount of complaints against foreigners in the Korean community has risen to worrisome levels as well. There is a high possibility that Nexon KR will decide to IP block more countries if the amount of dissatisfaction amongst its players rises to critical levels.

This doesn’t mean don’t enjoy the PvP events. But please keep the amount of Arena matches you have to bare necessities. Using the recent event as an example, it’s pretty hard to let the chance to get the very special Season 2 Avatar set. Still, if you only need 30 matches, just do 30 matches and no more. If you aren’t in the high enough rank to get the rewards you wanted, please don’t be greedy and just settle with lower ranks that gets you only the necessities.  Even just reaching S or SS rank(which is rather easy to get) will get you 4 or 5 piece of avatars. While the weapon piece can easily be replaced by IBs and there are much better hair pieces out there. Is PvPing really that important that you have to endure the P2P distance lag all the while risking you and your fellow foreign player’s chance to be playing in KR server at all? If feel like you have to no matter what enjoy the PvP experience in KR server, please be satisfied with just Sparring with your fellow foreign players.

All of the above also can apply to playing dungeons with Korean players as well. However, dungeons are not as big of an issue as they mostly aren’t competitive content.

Grand Master Creation Story

Tell us about Grand Master’s concept

S: I worked on her using the ‘Female Knight with a frail body fighting in the front lines for her country’ as a key word.

 Technically, it was the other job’s point to show the Elesis’s boyish side so this job focused on the girlish charm of the ‘Lady Knight Elesis’.

The graceful image that the 1st job had with dress-like armor and neat hairstyle was enhanced even more, while Elesis’s boyish side was attempted to be shown in a roundabout way by giving her a huge sword that even a heavily built man would have trouble carrying, and having her fight in the front lines with that sword.

What was the most difficult part of creating Grand Master?

S: There were a lot of difficulty in designing Saber Knight to be fancy, so even when put together with other 2nd jobs she wouldn’t stand out. Also drawing the illustration. There are lots to improve on but I’m glad a lot of the adventurers like it. T_T

What’s the main charm of the Grand Master?

S: Girlish! Giant Sword! and lastly, and of course wouldn’t it obviously be her backside?!

Grand Master was worked on strictly in the concept of enhancing the charm of Saber Knight. There was some time gap between the 1st job and the 2nd job so I hoped people would not regret choosing Saber Knight when seeing Grand Master.

….In truth, I was lured in by Saber Knight’s backside and ended up working on Grand Master.

You can say another charming point of Grand Master’s is her Giant Sword. Tell us about the sword.

S: Grand Master’s promotion sword design was designed with ‘What shape would it take if Grand Master’s personality was reflected in her Sword of Victory?’. After much pondering, I concluded for myself that ‘even if they are  same skills, Saber Knight would wield a pure blade bounce houses, while Grand Master would wield giant shield like sword!’. If it was another Elesis and not a Grand Master, she’d probably have different looking sword. :->

And some last words for all the adventurers-

S: Because Grand Master’s promotion illustration emphasizes her formal position as the Knight leader, there were some of you who were worried about how Elesis’s jolly personality might have disappeared. Grand Master also has the jolly personality of the original Elesis. Except now she’s aware that her actions or appearance stands for image of the Knights as a whole so she controls herself in formal situations! So you don’t need to worry ^_^

Hello this is Elsword^^
Today, we want to talk about the development story of Hamel’s secret dungeon.
A lot of users were interested in this dungeon due to Chung’s father, Sir Helputt’s appearance.

<Hamel’s Secret dungeon ‘Temple of Trials’ told by the developers>

What was the reason that got you started on the Temple of Trials?

J: Chung’s father!!!!!!!!!

H: I’m a Star Wars nerd, that epic meeting between father and son……

S: We wanted to create a story about Chung’s father. We actually wanted to show him in Hamel’s story…. but sadly it wasn’t completed properly back then. Because of this, he has always stayed in the back of our minds. We wanted to draw the serious showdown between Chung and his father.

We also wanted to finish off the Hamel’s story, original plan was to introduce a story of characters that disappeared from the story in Hamel, like Chloe… Ran… Chung’s father…etc. Make them appear in Hamel secret dungeon….then kill off all those characters…..(Sorry, just kidding ^^; )

Initial concept plans?

S: Initial concept had always been decided on Guardian Stones and legendary rooms. We wanted portray the feeling of acquiring the legendary Guardian Stones of Hamel and becoming stronger with each stone.
We then thought of Elsword and the company acquiring the Guardian stones one by one and using the power of the stones to free Helputt from evil.
In the concept stage we thought… ‘ohhh… Iron Man!! Everyone can wear Chung’s armor… this is awesome…’
We were worried that, ‘Ah… what if our pay increases 3 times and game log-in rate increases 4 times?’ But that never happened….

I: Because he’s such an important character in the story, we had to put lots of effort into Helputt’s concept. Thankfully we had a base concept that 흑주돈 artist left us so the job went smoothly.
But there was a memorable moment where he came out oddly cute in the conversation illustration stage which gave us bit of trouble. We also wanted to remove his helmet…. Team leader….? ;ㅂ;

J: Just like how Velder’s secret dungeon’s concept was Joaquin’s Hallucination, we wanted a unique concept for Hamel as well.
‘Water’ is basis for all life, main fuel for growth. So we had a combined opinion where we wanted to show our characters’ growth even more.

Some episodes during Development.

I: bro P left an unexpected footprint in the dungeon so it feels very strange. Hahahaha…..

S: Whether to reveal Chung’s Father’s face was a big issue amongst the development team….
‘If real face was revealed… there will be some disappointed people.. for reals.. etc.’ Because of reasons like these Chung’s father’s face wasn’t revealed.
‘Let’s work on Chung’s father’s final implementation up to the very last day before patch and shed dramatic tears! This is the father’s love…’
Was the initial atmosphere amongst the developers… but… the world doesn’t work the way you want…
However there is a rumor that the developers force marched their way from 2 weeks before the patch sleeping only 3 hours a day….

J: Animator watched Iron Man 3 very meaningfully and created a very cool scene for Knights entrance scene. hehe

Y: I remember everyone laughing together because the Final scene was supposed to be where monsters were swarming in, but it actually looked like they were walking slowly across the runway

Any difficulties during development?

S: We wanted to show much more… but we had to cut some parts because the stage became too long. We still get pressure from people saying that it’s already too long..

K: Sasha kept covering up the characters or just disappeared often so it was a hard work. ㅠㅠ Also she was turned around so it was hard to see her face…..

J: I think the most difficult task was to keep the ‘Temple of Water’ feeling while making each Trial rooms with different feel to them.
There’s many regrets ;ㅁ;

H: I shivered every time monsters had a bug… ah~~~

Any final remarks?

J: We wanted to tell the story of ‘growth’ in Hamel’s secret dungeon. Story where you had no choice but to run from Helputt at first, but after overcoming the trials and becoming stronger, you can liberate Helputt from the demons- and also there were minor growth stories about defeating the middle bosses to get a buff and become stronger.

H: I want to have a seamless update always ….T

C: It’s regretful that when fighting the shadow monsters, it doesn’t give the feeling of fighting yourself. It’s regretful because when the middle bosses die, it gives off a effect with a buff, but the buff doesn’t feel quite like Iron Man. It’s regretful because we wanted to make Helputt the ultimate form of Chung, but he’s actually weaker that Middle Bosses.
