Chapter 15: Eternal Ship of the Desert

Investigations on the whereabouts of the kidnapped Wind Priestess continue. First, the El Search Party enters the Caluso Tribal Village to confront the Great Battle Chief Karu. Not only do the adventurers' findings help them locate the Wind Priestess, but also hint at her captor's ultimate plan of reviving an ancient, destructive being feared by all.

Description

Demons plan to awaken the Behemoth using the Wind Priestess. The El Search Party formulate a plan to rescue the Priestess.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  • Aisha: Since Rena also got it, we can assume the curse also spread to people. If must have avoided Veiga.
  • Veiga: Thankfully so. After sending Anduran to Sander, I chased the visitor on my own to the mountains.
  • Veiga: And there... I saw a horde of monsters that seemed to be of the same species from the visitor.
  • Chung: Demons... Of course... They were waiting for the right moment to strike.
  • Veiga: I could not handle the numbers on my own and was immediately discovered, so I hurried over to Sander.
  • Veiga: They are planning on reawakening the Behemoth and controlling it with the Priestess's power!
  • Aisha: The Behemoth!
  • Vapor: Are you certain?!
  • Ara: Am I... The only one who's confused? What is a 'the Behemoth'?
  • Aisha: The Behemoth is a gigantic monster that ravaged the Sander lands around 200 years ago.
  • Aisha: But I thought warriors appeared and defeated it. It was still alive?!
  • Vapor: That's what everyone thinks. Truth is, the Behemoth is actually a holy beast.
  • Rena: A holy beast? But why would a holy beast act so violently?
  • Vapor: We do not know. But it was corrupted, and went berserk one day. The Wind Priestess at the time sacrificed her life to seal it in Parugo mountain.
  • Vapor: The Kaluso Tribe helped with sealing the Behemoth, and guarded Parugo mountains so it will not be revealed to outsiders.
  • Veiga: Lady Vapor is correct. It is unknown why the holy beast, the Behemoth, was corrupted and was enraged.
  • Veiga: But if the seal is broken, the tragedy that happened 200 years ago will happen again!
  • Elsword: No... We can't let that happen...
  • Raven: ...
  • Elesis: This is such an epic scale... I don't even know where to start.
  • Eve: I believe we should stop the monster that almost led Sander to extinction, or prevent it from waking all together.
  • Add: That sounds ludicrous. It will be much easier to take care of demons.
  • Elsword: But we can't just let Sander suffer alone. Since it was sealed before, maybe we can do something similar this time?
  • Add: Let me spell it out for you. There were two main factors that led to sealing the Behemoth. First, is the Wind Priestess, the principal agent that sealed the Behemoth.
  • Add: Second, is the Kaluso Tribe. According to granny over there, they helped with the sealing, and maintained the seal.
  • Ara: Currently, neither conditions are fulfilled. The Priestess is kidnapped, and there's trouble in Kaluso village.
  • Elesis: We need to resolve both if we want to do anything with the Behemoth. I guess Kaluso village would be easier to take care of?
  • Chung: If they aim to awaken the Behemoth, they must have taken the Priestess of Parugo mountains. How about we head there?
  • Veiga: I'm sorry. Because I was found, I suspect they are guarding the place more heavily.
  • Rena: If we go there when we don't have any information about the seal, we might put the Priestess in needless danger.
  • Rena: They won't harm the Priestess as long as they have use for her. Or... perhaps this wishful thinking...
  • Raven: We need to check what they are doing at Parugo mountains and confirm the safety of the Priestess, but having too many people raises the danger of being discovered.
  • Elesis: How's this. Veiga, lead us to Kaluso village. Afterwards, one of us can accompany Veiga to Parugo mountains to keep a look out.
  • Elesis: The rest, can take care of what's happening at the village and collect information about the Behemoth and the seal.
  • Ara: Perhaps we need one more person for look out?
  • Elesis: That might be one too many. Plus, I want as many of us as possible to go to Kaluso village. If they are still not back to their senses, we'll have no chance but to fight our way through.
  • Elsword: I see. We have to hold back, because we're trying to get them back to their senses, not beat them up.
  • Elesis: You got it! We need to make sure Aisha is well protected. She's the one capable of breaking the curse.
  • Aisha: Hohoho! Hear that? You better worship the ground I walk on!
  • Elsword: Alright! You're the greatest, happy now? I'll humor you since this is really important.
  • Chung: Yes! Aisha, I will not let anything harm you.
  • Eve: I will go with Veiga to Parugo mountains. Moby and Remy will also serve as my eyes.
  • Moby & Remy: ~! ~!
  • Rena: We can always count on you, Eve. Then let's do this. Lady Vapor, please stop the search. We will go rescue the Priestess.
  • Chung: ... Oh... If the Kaluso Tribe, Trocks, and Harpies are all under the curse...
  • Chung: Would Emirate be alright?
  • Aisha: Ahhhh! We completely forgot about him! What do we do?
  • Rena: ... I take back what I said. The mercenaries and the volunteer guards should search for Emirae. We will check Kaluso village since we're headed that way.

Description

Great Chieftain Karu and the Kaluso Tribe attacked the El Search Party under the influence of the demon curse. In order to talk to them, first the Kaluso Tribe must be released from the curse.

Quest Acceptance Dialogue
  • Karu: Be gone! You dim-witted merchants!
  • Raven: A warm welcoming as expected.
  • Ara: According to Veiga, the Kaluso Tribe centers around the Great Chieftain Karu, and several Battle Chiefs.
  • Elsword: A tribe led by Battle Chiegs? They must all be good fighters. Alright! Let's do this!
  • Aisha: Don't forget our goal!
Quest Completion Dialogue
  • Karu: ... Kugh... I...?
  • Karu: ... Who are you...? I see, you are the mercenaries hired by Sander! Release the Priestess you kidnapped at once!
  • Elsword: Karu, wake up! You are being tricked by demons!
  • Emirate: Hmph, Karu was right. If we can't persuade you with our words, we will convince you with force!
  • Rena: Emirate! You're safe! But... why is he on their side?!
  • Elesis: He's out of it. He must have gotten the curse when he arrived. Aisha?
  • Aisha: I'm on it! Everyone return to your senses!
  • (... ... ...)
  • Karu: Anduran wasn't forcibly taken by Sander?!
  • Karu: Yes, I remember now. That witch that came to the village... She asked about the Behemoth. I don't remember anything after that.
  • Karu: Karis... She tricked us!
  • Emirate: Demons must be planning on taking over all of Elrios! Awaken the Behemoth? That's an absurd, terrifying plan!
  • Raven: They return to normal as soon as the curse is broken.
  • Ara: Karis... That's the name Ran mentioned before he left. The Northern Empire, Senace, and now Sander...
  • Chung: They were slowly planting their seeds in Sander while they were invading Hamel. I won't let Sander suffer the same pain we did!
  • Elsword: Karu, tell us about the Behemoth. How did you seal it before?
  • Karu: Seal...? Only the Wind Priestess knows about the seal. We only helped by holding down the Behemoth to cast the seal.
  • Aisha: Do you think the current Priestess knows how to seal the Behemoth?
  • Veiga: Great Chieftain Karu! Are you alright?
  • Ara: Veiga! Eve! You've returned! You look urgent... Did something happen...?
  • Eve: Unfortunately, yes. Parugo mountains have been taken over by demons. We've just witnessed a great number of them attempting to enter the Behemoth.
  • Raven: Not good...! This is urgent neews. We need to go to Parugo mountains now!
  • Karu: There's no use. If they already made it inside, you will have to face the Behmoth. That's not something a mere human can do.
  • Elsword: What are you talking about?! We can't just let this happen!
  • Veiga: Great Chieftain Karu...
  • Karu: ... It's time to awaken the Sandtilus.
  • Chung: The Sandtilus...?
  • Rena: Sandtilus... Why does that sound familiar? I swear I heard that name before.
  • Emirate: Oh, you mean the legendary airship?
  • Eve: Sandtilus. An airship built during the Ancient Elrian Kingdom era.
  • Eve: It has lost its former glory when it crashed, but was reborn using the culmination of ancient magitech and Nasod technology. It is known as the Eternal Ship of the Desert.
  • Add: Oh...?
  • Elsword: Oh yeah! Toma mentioned it before! But why do we need an airship all of a sudden?
  • Karu: We were able to stop the Behemoth in the past thanks to the Sandtilus.
  • Karu: It is time for the Eternal Ship of the Desert to rise again after 200 years.
  • Ara: We should be able to catch up to the Behemoth with the airship and seal it again!
  • Elesis: Alright, this doesn't sound too bad! We can do this!
  • Raven: An airship...

Description

Elsword worries about the results that will come from his own decisions, but Elesis advices that it's important to have faith in your own decision and answer for the friends that trusts and follows you.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  • [Outside the Sandtilus]
  • Chung: We're prepared the Wind Stones!
  • Elsword: How 's the repairs going Sis?
  • Elesis: It's going. Apparently, there's a lot to fix since it hasn't been operating for 200 years.
  • Chung: I'm just glad there were still people who could fix the ship.
  • Elesis: Tell me about it. Eve, and surprisingly Add have been helping out a lot. I don't know much about machines, but they seemed pretty excited to help out.
  • Elsword: I thought we could just take out the airship and go. Is it ok to be delayed like this?
  • Chung: Aisha said it should be fine. Since it didn't move for a long time, she suspects the Behemoth wouldn't be able to move well soon as it wakes up with its enormous body.
  • Elesis: It's good there's time to prepare. I heard there's another complicated process to go through after we set sail.
  • Raven: That's correct. They say last time, they fired the Restraining Device on the Sandtilus to stop its movements.
  • Raven: So we need to learn how and when to use the Restraining Device.
  • Chung: Is that equipment they're fixing over there also part of the Sandtilus?
  • Raven: No. That's the support airship used to transport Sander merchant's merchandise. We asked to borrow it to use as bait against the Behemoth.
  • Raven: We are in much better position than when Sander suddenly had to face the enraged the Behemoth 200 years ago, since we can predict and prepare.
  • Raven: Meaning, there's no need to chase the Behemoth like a wild goose chase wondering where it would turn next.
  • Chung: I can truly feel everyone working together to face the upcoming danger together. If only we were able to do this elsewhere... I'm sure things would have been different.
  • Chung: I wish to help! Is there anything else I can do?
  • Raven: You can do help Rena and Ara. They should have arrived by now.
  • Chung: Alright. I'll see you two later.
  • Elesis: ... Raven's expertise really shines no matter where we go. I heard he operated an airship before? It seems his experience then really helped us out this time.
  • Elesis: Apparently the Kaluso Tribe has little to no field experience, since the Sandtilus was barely used after the Behemoth was sealed.
  • Elsword: ... Aren't you worried, Sis?
  • Elesis: Why, are you?
  • Elsword: ... I witnessed many soldiers failed because of a mission failing at Velder. That's why I'm worried something will go bad any moment, even though it seems everything is going fine.
  • Elsword: I don't know what to do to act with certainty like you or Raven...
  • Elesis: ... You thought I was acting with certainty?
  • Elsword: You're not?
  • Elesis: Haha. I'm not always certain of every decision I make. I just try to look like I am.
  • Elesis: No one knows what will happen. Like you said, something might go wrong, or you might make matters worse with a wrong decision. Sometimes, sacrifice may be necessary.
  • Elesis: But you and I both know, that no swordsman can ever guarantee their victory. We just move forward with our faith in our swords...
  • Elesis: And when there are friends relying on you, you must stand firm. When the leader is uncertain, everyone will follow suit.
  • Elesis: Oh, Dad told me that.
  • Elsword: ...
  • Elesis: Haha, look at you pout. Were you expecting a straight answer?
  • Elsword: But you always made the right decision. In Velder, and in Hamel.
  • Elesis: I'm glad you thought that way. But rather than me making the right decision, I think it's because you and your friends believed in me.
  • Elesis: Sometimes, unwavering faith is more important than making a decision.
  • Elsword: Even if you say that... I still don't get it. Is this also a matter of experience?
  • Elesis: Of course. If my path eventually becomes your answer, that won't be too bad, but I'm sure you'd have your own answer and decisions you will make.
  • Elsword: ...
  • Elesis: Just like when you were young. You insisted you pick the biggest sword! Saying that it will be stronger because it's bigger.
  • Elsword: D, did I say that? I don't remember. I just assumed I picked it because Dad used it.
  • Elsword: But I suppose that was also my decision.
  • Elsword: My answer... My decision...

Nasods that everyone forgot except her... Aisha comforts Eve who worries it will be a waste of time to look for any remaining traces of the Nasods.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  • [Inside the Sandtilus]
  • Eve: Thank you for helping, Aisha. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have been able to repair the airship so quickly.
  • Aisha: No problem! When you said it was made with Nasod technology, I didn't think there would be anything I could do to help.
  • Aisha: But looks like everything except the main power source and some attachments was build with magitech. I'm glad my knowledge was useful.
  • Eve: It's actually mostly built with magitech with some implementation of Nasod technology. Most of the main frame does not use Nasod technology.
  • Aisha: You said it lost its former glory when it crashes... right? Is that when they implemented it?
  • Eve: Yes. It was abandoned for a long time after the crash. But one Debrian claimed they found a way to resolve the energy depletion problem which was the main cause of the crash...
  • Eve: And attached the El energy device as the main power system to the Sandtilus, which later became the central piece of Nasod technology.
  • Eve: I heard with the revival of the Sandtilus, the Debrian's El energy device became known throughout the lands.
  • Aisha: That's fascinating! I wouldn't have suspected at all! I would have just assumed it was created with some unknown ancient technology.
  • Eve: I suppose that's true. There's... barely anyone left who knows about the Nasods...
  • Eve: ... Aisha. You said you search for different ruins, looking for ancient relics?
  • Aisha: Yup. You could say it's the duty of the Landar family.
  • Eve: Did you find anything on the Nasods?
  • Aisha: Hm... I'm not sure... I may have glimpsed over it, since I don't know much about the Nasods.
  • Eve: If a magician of your caliber knows little to nothing about the Nasods, I suppose there's barely any information left on the Nasods anymore.
  • Aisha: Do you think so...? I suppose it makes sense, everything on the Nasods was erased. I'm sorry. You're looking for information on the Nasods, aren't you?
  • Eve: I'm not merely looking for information on the Nasods. My goal is the continued survival and prosperity of the Nasods. That is the responsibility given to me as the Queen...
  • Eve: You can say, searching for the Nasods when their records are erased and can barely be found, is a waste of my time, and a distraction from my goal.
  • Eve: ... I do not know what happened during the Nasod War. When the war broke out, Adam decided I, along with some of my brethren should go into hibernation.
  • Eve: When I woke up from my long hibernation... The Elrios I saw was vastly different from how I remembered.
  • Aisha: ...
  • Eve: After I have confirmed what Adam has done... I made a resolve as I left Altera island.
  • Eve: If I encounter anyone who hates me because I'm a Nasod, show me rage, and contempt... Even if it causes me grief, I still won't give up.
  • Eve: But no one even noticed. Not even one...
  • Eve: At first, I was relieved. Though I was determined... I knew it won't be easy to face someone that hates me.
  • Eve: But now... I don't know. I wasn't ready for this. I don't even know how I should define this emotion I'm feeling right now.
  • Eve: Same with looking for any information on the Nasods. Though I am aware it has nothing to do with my goal... I don't understand myself.
  • Aisha: ...
  • Aisha: You know, most of the Landar family travel, so when we separate, we often don't see each other for quite some time.
  • Aisha: But I never really felt alone, since I knew I would eventually hear from them, even if it takes a long time.
  • Aisha: But... If I were the last remaining Landar, I would have also asked around trying to find every scrap of information I can about the family.
  • Aisha: If the Landar family, that I cherish and feel proud to be a part of, disappears without a trace, and no one even remembers we existed, it's only natural to want to find anything that remains.
  • Eve: It's... natural...?
  • Aisha: Of course! That's part of the reason why members of the Landar family often spend their lives seeking ancient historic sites and magical remains!
  • Aisha: That's why I hope you don't think it's a waste of time to do what you do, Eve. Plus, I don't think it's completely unrelated to your goal.
  • Aisha: You're the one building the future of the Nasods, right? Then you need to think in order to decide what future you are going to build.
  • Eve: The future I think...
  • Eve: ... I see. Thank you, Aisha. I feel... better now.
  • Aisha: No problem! ... Here! The flow of mana here is functioning perfectly! Now, we just need to check the power system that will be activated with the Wind Stone.
