Only the Last Slash burns MP per hit, the initial Slash does not.
The Slash's hitbox remains active until the Last Slash occurs, so it can hit enemies below you if you fall off a platform during it.
The Last Slash can hit across it's entire visual, allowing it to hit enemies slightly below you, as well as enemies ahead above you.
