Noah has a special awakening system which is dependent on current moon phase. You will have only 1 awakening bead and each moon phase awakening has a different effect but you will gain the normal awakening benefits when awakening like other characters, increasing his attack by 20% (or 30% after transcending). You can re-awaken at will whenever his Awakening Bead is full, allowing you to change which moon phase's effects are active while awakened. Similar to Laby, his awakening duration has an upper limit when re-awakening consecutively that cannot be increased through the Awakening Duration Increase stat and is only affected by the passives Ocean Fog and Cold Moon's Solitude.

Moonlight

A special gauge unique to Noah will appear next to his health bar. This gauge shows you which of the three moon phases you are currently on. While the phases by themselves have no immediate effect at base job, Awakening or reviving during a specific moon phase will give different benefits.

Moon phases will automatically progress whenever you use any given skill, changing from New Moon, to Half Moon, to Full Moon, to Half Moon and finally back to New Moon in order. Certain skills and passives that are obtained later on may grant additional benefits to specific moon phases outside of the basic Awakening and resurrection effect.

Awakening

New Moon, Half Moon, Full Moon, Blood Moon awakening bead.

  • If you advance to the Second Selection path, the moon phase will always be at half moon, which means that you will only be able to enter half-moon phase Awakening.
  • If you advance to the Second Dejection path, the Full Moon phase will be replaced by the Blood Moon phase.

  • All effects from the system are multiplicative, except Critical Damage Increase from New Moon and Double Attack Chance Increase from Half Moon when resurrected.

Trivia

  • The color of Noah's Awakening Bead changes depending on the moon phase, being dark purple during New Moon and light purple during Full Moon, with Half Moon having it be in between these two shades of purple.
    • After advancing to Second Dejection, the Moon Phase gauge will glow red, and the Full Moon will change to Blood Moon, which turns his Awakening Bead crimson red. The tooltip for Moonlight will be updated to reflect this change, replacing all Full Moon text with Blood Moon text.
      • Despite the Moon Phase gauge turning red in the Second Dejection path, the New Moon and Half Moon awakening beads retain their original color.
  • Each of Noah's paths is conceptually focused on a specific moon phase.
    • The Liberator path is focused on the New Moon phase, granting a special resource that's obtained every time the moon phase transitions to New Moon.
    • The Celestia path is focused on the Half Moon phase, locking the Moonlight system into Half Moon and removing the Full Moon and New Moon phases.
    • The Nyx Pieta path's Skills gain additional effects during New Moon, Half Moon, or Full Moon Awakening depending on the Skill. He later gains the ability to receive these effects during Full Moon Awakening for all of his Skills, and also receives a Special Action that can only be used during Full Moon Awakening, making this path focused on the Full Moon phase.
    • The Morpheus path is focused on the Blood Moon phase, replacing the Full Moon phase and granting various benefits while in Blood Moon Awakening.
  • Celestia is the only class path that does not increase Noah's maximum Awakening Duration.
