Within the confines of his mind, he constantly relived the moments he shared with his friends, and sorrowful day a friend betrayed him. Replaying in his mind, tormenting his being.

Description

The man with a machine arm orders his subordinates to ravage the village. But his eyes are gazing somewhere afar.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  • A small village near Bethma. It's late at night, but the fire that consumes the village burns red like the setting sun.
  • The Black Crow all moved as one. Nobody got in their way.
  • After several warning, the people evacuated and the empty village was filled silence.
  • Raven: I will give you one hour. Prioritize taking El shards and magic stones.
  • Leader of the Black Crows, Raven. His eyes were looking far beyond even as he was giving his orders.
  • ... ... ... ...
  • Though it was a peaceful weekend lunch, Seris was annoyed. Her mood was shown, as the fork and knife she gripped in her hand clanged against the dish.
  • Owen glared at Seris in irritation, until he finally spoke up.
  • Owen: I told you those slanderers won't accept your dual requests.
  • And that was the final straw for Seris.
  • Seris: Ugghh, those disgraceful jerks! I really wanted to make them shut up!
  • And the story was back to the beginning.
  • A lot of time has passed since he entered the military academy as the adopted son of General Cronwell. And a lot of things happened.
  • Watching the nobles his age flatter each other while acting like they owned the place was irritating at best, so he did not pay any attention to the recent rumors.
  • What was it this time? Oh yes, the conniving peasant conned the General Cronwell in to adopting his son... Or something like that.
  • It was a rumor that wasn't even coherent. If you wanted to climb the social ladder, why would you send your child for adoption instead of going for it himself?
  • Furthermore, the timing of his adoption was after his biological father's death. Anyone with two braincells to rub together would know the rumor doesn't make sense.
  • A strange rumor that lacks continuity, ingenuity, and class lived on for the crass purpose of serving as entertainment for certain people.
  • Raven: (Imagination of those who only care to hold on to their positions tend to be poor.)
  • Raven decided not to respond as he knew that people who spread stories with malicious intent never cared about the validity of the story in the first place. But even still, that didn't mean he wasn't annoyed by it.
  • So of course he would feel gratitude towards Seris who reacted to the rumors, the good and the bad, as if they were her own.

  • Raven stared at Seris, feeling his affection for her grow.
  • However, Seris did not notice his gaze. She was too busy glaring at Owen as she aggressively chewed her food.
  • Seris's cheeks were round with food. Raven quickly looked down at his won plate, barely managing to hold down on his laughter at the quirky display.
  • Raven: Should I stop them? He hesitated for a moment, but he was certain that he will burst out in laughter if he looked at Seris again. Well, it's not too serious, so he'll just let them be.
  • (After all... It's good that she's chewing her food...?)
  • Raven decided to just concentrate on his food.

Description

Quest Completion Dialogue
  • Seris: How can you say that, Owen? What can be amusing about that stupid slander!
  • Owen: Of course it's their attitude that's amusing. They're grievance stems from the fact that Raven, a commoner, it studying at the academy with the nobles.
  • Owen: But if it isn't for Sir Cronwell financing Raven's education, he wouldn't be here. That's where the inconsistency begins.
  • Owen: So, they needed to create an arbitrary part to fit the narrative. A villain, and a victim. A conniving commoner, and the poor innocent Sir Cronwell who was tricked...
  • Owen: YOu can see their desperation in trying to draw a line between commoners and nobility. That's what I find so amusing.
  • Seris: I can't stand it. Why are they all acting like being a noble is the only thing they have going for them?
  • Owen: Because it is. Though, I suppose that's not the only reason...
  • Owen trailed off. He was likely thinking about the series of events and rumors that occurred after the rebellion.
  • Owen: They're only trying to suck up to those they wish to align with. It's foolish, but what can you do. They are a bunch of incompetent fools who can only make their place by dragging down others.
  • Owen: They say he's just lucky, because they don't want to admit that they're the one who need luck more than others.
  • Owen put down his utensils and looked at Seris, as if sending her a message.
  • Owen: That's why... they are never going to fight other nobles 'like' them, Seris.
  • Owen: It doesn't matter how many times you challenge them to a dual. They probably don't even think it's shameful to refuse. They don't want to conflict with other nobles 'like' them.
  • After listening to Owen, Seris opened and closed her mouth, as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, nothing came out of her mouth.

  • Raven knew something wasn't right, but forced himself to stay calm. He did not wish to have his anxiety spread among his allies.

  • Seris whispered so only Raven could hear. She sounded cool.
  • Others would have thought she was angry, but Raven knew from experience that she was trying to mask her unease.

  • Owen from his imagination does not respond.
  • Raven: Our friendship, the achievements and struggles we had together, were they all merely stepping stones for you?
  • Raven: Were you just like the others?
  • Owen smiles without a word. It's the same smile he saw multiple times at the academy.
  • He didn't understand back then.
  • But know, it looked like a smile... commending the lucky commoner who knew his place.
