Chapter 11: Hamel Fell into Darkness

Elsword and the gang deliver Vanessa's rescue letter to Penensio, the chief of the Red Knights in Hamel of the Senace Kingdom. They help the Red Knights drive the demons away, and while most of the Red Knights retreat, Penensio and his loyal comrades stay behind. Penensio and the El Search Party sense an ominous force emanating from the demons around Hamel, and so they begin their investigation.

Quest Completion Dialogue
  • Elesis: Long time no see, Penensio. Good work while I was gone.
  • Penensio: Captain?! I did not expect to see you here. Are you returning for good?
  • Elesis: ... What's up with your reaction? Did you get my message? I told you to hurry back to Velder.
  • Penensio: Did something happen? Wait, we'll continue our discussion inside.
  • Raven: Did they not receive the message at all? It's a good thing we came by.

  • (MURMUR MURMUR)
  • Eve: It's not as bad as Velder, but the atmosphere here is grim.
  • Aisha: It wasn't like this before... but they really lost their spirit. It's usually much livelier and bright.
  • Elsword: Have you been here before?
  • Aisha: Yup. Senace has a longer history than Velder, so they have a lot of relics that are highly valuable.
  • Aisha: Plus, you usually have to stop by Hamel when you are traveling in between Lurensia and Fluone. That's why you can see all sorts of goods from all over, including Velder and Sander.
  • Aisha: I heard the Landar family kept a close relation with the last ruler of Hamel, Lord Rod Gess, when he was alive... But I don't really know very well.
  • Rena: Who is the ruler now?
  • Aisha: If nothing extreme happened, I believe his son took over. I did hear there was a controversy in selecting the new ruler.
  • Penensio: They said Lord Rod Ross was not fit to rule, as he is a 'free spirit' who is not tied down to rules and regulation.
  • Raven: ... He's a scoundrel.
  • Penensio: But after the second crisis, he is doing his part in bringing peace to Hamel.
  • Penensio: He makes speeches at the square and encourage the civilians with an artistic performance of fighting against demons.
  • Penensio: He is planning on holding a book reading ceremony today, to console everyone's heavy heart.
  • Elsword: None of that actually helps when fighting against demons... Is the reception positive?
  • Penensio: I can't say it's positive... But I'd much rather this than him actually attempting to command an army.
  • Penensio: He does participate in every strategy meeting, but he's not exactly gifted in this area...
  • Elesis: You must have gone through a lot, Penensio.
  • Rena: Yes, in more ways than one.
  • Penensio: We arrived at the strategy room. We've covered what happened in Hamel, can you tell me what happened in Velder?

  • Penensio: Even Velder was attacked by demons... It's just as you feared, captain. Are we still not aware of whether or not his Majesty survived the attack?
  • Elesis: Yes. They were ready for it. It will take some time before Velder settles down.
  • Penensio: That's why you asked us to return. But the situation at Hamel is no good.
  • Penensio: Though we Red Knights joined the fight, we barely managed to turn the tide from devastating to less favorable.
  • Elesis: Ugh, what a pain... Report what happened in Hamel up to this point.
  • Penensio: Yes. But first, can I ask others to leave the room?
  • (SLAM!)
  • Hamel Guard: Lieutenant! The Black Armored Knight is back in Resiam Outskirts!
  • Penensio: What! Captain, please wait.
  • Hamel Guard: The Seiker heir left alone when he heard the news!
  • Penensio: Alone? He's not fully recovered from his last battle! This is bad. We must get moving at once. Inform the Red Knights!
  • Elesis: Are the Red Knights currently in battle? I'll go then. That will be faster.
  • Penensio: Wait, captain. I must tell you something.
  • Elesis: Right now? ... It must be important.
  • Elsword: If you have to talk, we can go instead.
  • Elesis: Thanks, Elsword.

Description

It seems important information of Senace is leaking to the demon army. There's a rumor that Hamel's, White Colossus, Helputt, betrayed Hamel and became the Black Armored Knight on the demon's side.

Quest Acceptance Dialogue
  • Penensio: Major cities in Senace were attacked and had to retreat. A prime example, is this port town, marked here on this map.
  • Penensio: The port here had multiple battleships to handle the demons approaching from the coast, but with the explosion of the oil storage, the city no longer functions fully.
  • Elesis: The oil storage? How did it explode?
  • Penensio: We do not know.
  • Penensio: Next is Resiam. It's known to control the waterways with its canal, but the waterways were attacked, releasing a huge flow of sea water. Now, it's completely sunk underwater.
  • Elesis: All the major strategic sites were targeting. I see now why Senace was having so much trouble... But why is this happening? I don't see any fault in the plans.
  • Elesis: Demons seem to know their way around Senace... A little too well.
  • Elesis: Wait, wait a second... Penensio, this can't be...?
  • Penensio: Yes. Our information is being leaked.
  • Elesis: Mmmm... Is that why you wanted to discuss this alone?
  • Elesis: This explains why you were stuck in Hamel, and why my message didn't reach you.
  • Elesis: So? Who do you think is behind all of this?
  • Penensio: The missing White Colossus of Hamel, Sir Helputt... It's rumored that he is the Black Armored Knight.
Quest Completion Dialogue
  • [Resiam Outskirts]
  • Aisha: It wasn't like this the last time I was in Hamel... It's flooded with water. Is this also demons' doing?
  • Elsword: It wasn't always like this?
  • Eve: Look underneath the water. There's an entrance. It seems the water levels were not always this high.
  • Aisha: It's still beautiful, but it's sad.
  • ???: Ugh... Ha, ha...!
  • Rena: Look! Someone's fighting over there!
  • Rena: He's surrounded by demons! Let's go save him!
  • Black Armored Knight: ...
  • ???: Wait, you can't... you can't leave!
  • Raven: Hey you! Watch your back! There's another one approaching!
  • ???: You can't go!! I came all this way to find you! I can't let you... Agh!
  • (SLUMP)
  • Shadow Walker: GRRRR!
  • Elsword: I'm not going to let you harm him!
  • (BOOM!)
  • ???: No... I... I must see...
  • Elsword: Hey, are you alright? Can you hold my hand?
  • ???: Red Knight... Again...?
  • ???: ...
  • Rena: He fainted. Let's take him back.

The boy found in Resiam Outskirts requests the El Search Party to help Hamel, but when he hears the situation in Velder, he remains silent.

Quest Acceptance Dialogue
  • Chung: ...
  • Rena: Is he alright?
  • Eve: He's just exhausted. Once he is well rested, he should regain his consciousness.
  • Raven: Just a moment too late, and he would have been seriously injured. Anyway, is that true? Demons are getting a hold of Senace's military intelligence?
  • Elesis: It's very likely.
  • Rena: Is it alright for us to know about that? Penensio only wanted you to know, right?
  • Aisha: I get it. It's because everyone here just arrived from Velder, so they are no longer under suspicion.
  • Chung: ... Mmm.
  • Rena: How are you feeling? You don't have to force yourself to get up.
  • Chung: I'm alright. You... are the Red Knight.
  • Elesis: Yeah. We've met, haven't we? How have you been?
  • Chung: Thank you for the time. And...
  • Chung: Thank you for saving me this time, another Red Knight. I seem to receive a lot of help from Red Knights.
  • Elsword: You've met my Sis before?
  • Chung: Your sis? Oh, she helped a lot when we requested aid to Velder.
  • Chung: So you were siblings. I did think you looked alike. Thank you again, to everyone else, as well.
  • Chung: I'm sorry, where are my manners? I am... Chung. Are you... reinforcements from Velder?
  • Raven: No. I'm sorry to say, we are a bearer of bad news.
  • Chung: Bad news?
  • Raven: Velder was invaded by demons. Their situation is worse than Hamel. The entire capital and palace were almost completely annihilated.
  • Raven: We managed to reclaim the capital, but the demons are still occupying the palace. We came here to ask for the Red Knights' return.
  • Chung: Velder as well...? But... but currently, Hamel is...
  • Elesis: I'm sorry. We understand that Hamel is also in a dire situation. We will be discussing this matter with Lord Rod Ross before returning.
  • Chung: ...
  • Elesis: ... It's time. I'll go meet Lord Rod Ross.
Quest Completion Dialogue
  • Chung: ...
  • Rena: (I feel bad seeing him look so disappointed. Should I try and comfort him?)
  • Aisha: (They say he jumped into battle looking for his father. But now, he might lose the reinforcements before the situation in Senace calmed down.)
  • Aisha: (What can we say? We're just strangers that don't even know what's going on.)
  • Elsword: ... Hey, can you tell us what happened in Senace?
  • Aisha: (What are you doing, you dummy!)
  • Elsword: (Ow! Why are you poking me! You said you didn't know what's going on, so I asked.)
  • Chung: ... Of course. Is there anything in particular you wish to know about?
  • Elsword: Hey! Stop poking...!
  • Elsword: Hm, ahem! Uh... Tell us about the El. I heard Hamel holds the Water El.
  • Chung: ...

  • Chung: By the time I arrived at the Water Temple, it was already too late. The Priestess was kidnapped...
  • Chung: ... and the priest was turning into a demon. He left me a message before passing.
  • Chung: I was unable to save the Water El, the priest, or the Priestess...
  • Raven: ... Don't blame yourself. Anyone in your situation would have struggled.
  • Eve: Do you think they created a dimension gate with the Water El in the temple? Then the temple would be where the demons are coming from.
  • Chung: I don't think so. The temple was sealed, and there were no reports with demon sightings near the temple.
  • Chung: ... I already know about the rumor saying that my father is the Black Armored Knight.
  • Chung: The rumor is getting more and more specific, saying that the missing nobles are not missing, but are actually traitors, relaying our information to the demons.
  • Chung: But... Those are just rumors that goes around in chaotic times.
  • Chung: Several years ago, when we were having trouble fighting off the demons because we had no knowledge of them, my father was the one who protected Hamel.
  • Chung: There's no way he would side with demons! That's why I have to capture the Black Armored Knight and prove his innocence!
  • Rena: ... That's why you were pushing yourself.
  • Raven: It mostly matches what Elesis said. But the Priestess and the nobles missing? What do the nobles have to do with anything?
  • Aisha: Nobles of Senace are honored knights. Maybe they were targeted because each one of them is a threat to the demon army?
  • Eve: There could be a more reasonable explanation why they are missing, considering how chaotic the curren situation is.
  • Rena: Would it be alright for the Red Knights to leave...?
  • (CLICK)
  • Elesis: I'm back.
  • Rena: How did it go? You don't look too pleased. Are you upset?
  • Elesis: I'm not sure if I'm just upset, or frustrated. Anyhow, the return of the Red Knights has been decided.
  • Eve: Then why are you upset? You expected this to happen.
  • Elesis: I just don't understand what Lord Rod Ross is up to! The moment I brought up withdrawing, he enthusiastically gave his full consent without a moment of hesitation!
  • Chung: What?! But Hamel has yet to resolve all its problems... Surely he didn't...
  • Elesis: I can't believe it either. He said the situation in Velder is more important, so all the Red Knights should return at once. Can you believe it? And here I was, prepared for his wrath...
  • Raven: ... Did he not like having Velder's military presence growing stronger in Senace? But demons are already at Hamel's doorstep.
  • Elesis: We were the ones who had to beg to stay. I think he's just clueless at to what's going on. Anyway, this is what's been decided.
  • Elesis: Half of the Red Knights will return to Velder. The other half, will remain in Hamel and complete their mission.
  • Elesis: Lord Rod Ross agreed, but the man power of half the Red Knights is still big. So I decided to stay with Penensio and help out as much as I can, leading the operation.
  • Chung: Then...!
  • Elesis: Yeah, I can't just leave knowing how the situation is here. How about it, everyone?
  • Aisha: Of course we'll help.
  • Eve: As long as demons target Elrios, the prosperity of the Nasod race is also at stake.
  • Rena: If you've asked for our opinion, I believe we made it clear when we left Velder.
  • Raven: ... I heard there's an experienced blacksmith in Hamel. Since we don't know how many demons we'll be slaying, I'll have to go check with him.
  • Elsword: Then it's decided?
  • Chung: Ahh... Thank you, everyone.

Description

The demons invading Hamel seem to be targeting the waterways to claim advantage over battles in water. The El Search decides to head to Ancient Waterway to find out the reason for the rapidly rising water level.

Quest Acceptance Dialogue
  • Penensio: ... After listening to your story, I read through the repots of what happened during the demon invasion in Senace again.
  • Penensio: But it's odd. You said demons appeared from limited locations in Feita and Velder, but it's different here.
  • Penensio: If you look at all the locations attacked by demon by chronological order, it looks like this.
  • Rena: There are multiple dimension gates? No... This looks like a path to travel...
  • Eve: It looks like they were opening gates as they were moving. It does seem different from the two other incidents we encountered.
  • Elsword: There's one in the middle of the ocean, as well. Did they actually open a dimension gate in the middle of the ocean?
  • Aisha: What's this black mark over here?
  • Penensio: This mark where the Black Armor Knight has made an appearance.
  • Elesis: It's similar to the route demons appeared from. The Black Armored Knight apears, then the demon army follows soon after. Is this a diversion?
  • Elesis: This is not good... The demons that appear in Hamel are good at underwater battle. Hamel's strategic location is not really working as an advantage. It's also difficult to know where they are going to show up next.
  • Penensio: Plus, the water levels in Hamel is rising rapidly. It's difficult to scout.
  • Chung: ...
  • Raven: At the very least, unlike in Feita and Velder, the demons do not outnumber us greatly. They are using smarter tactics because their numbers are few.
  • Elesis: Their numbers are low? It did kind of feel like it... but is there any evidence to back this claim?
  • Raven: No.
  • Elesis: ... I do understand you have many experience on the field, and have sharp battle sense...
  • Raven: Demons that attacked Senace mainly used tactics where the Black Armored Knight and a small number of troops serve as a diversion, while the other group destroyed strategic locations and facilities.
  • Raven: From there, I sensed that they are avoiding a full-scale invasion.
  • Eve: If we analyze the current route available to us with Raven's predictions, we can narrow the next target for the demon army to these two locations.
  • Eve: One is a frontier location, the other is the ancient waterways.
  • Elesis: I'm leaning towards the waterways. Hamel will completely drown if something happens to the waterway.
  • Elsword: Then how about Chung, Hamel Guards, and the Red Knights take the frontier, while we go check out the waterway?
  • Chung: ... I'll go with you.
  • Elsword: Really? But aren't you chasing the Black Armored Knight?
  • Chung: Yes. But... Now isn't the time to act on my wishes.
  • Chung: Right now, Senace is almost completely taken over by demons except for Hamel and a small area surrounding it.
  • Chung: We already have problems providing for refugees that are currently coming in by the thousands. If the water levels rise any more increasing the area that is more advantageous for the demons...
  • Chung: We are just starting to turn this around. I will not let demons overrun this place.
  • Aisha: A sudden change in the water levels? Do you think there's something wrong with the waterway? If that's the case, the demons might already be manipulating the waterway.
  • Chung: It's possible that the rising water levels is due to the missing Water El and the Priestess, but it's worth checking out.
  • Raven: If that's your decision, alright. We should go check the waterway right now, if we can.
  • Chung: Yes. I will lead the way.
Quest Completion Dialogue
  • Chung: There are demons at the entrance of the waterway... I will not go down easy this time!
  • (WHING CLANG!)
  • Rena: Whoa! He changed into a suit of armor!
  • Aisha: It's a Guardian Stone. They say it materialize the weapon according to the user.
  • Rena: Oh! You mean the weapon is different depending on who uses it?
  • Elesis: Ooh... That's pretty neat. I wonder if I can get one.
  • Eve: The demons here are different from the demons we've faced so far. Though they still feel similar.
  • Eve: From our experience in Velder, it seems there are many species of demons with different traits, just like how Elrios have many different species.
  • Elesis: And this happened because all those different species of demons all decided to invade Elros? Amazing...
  • Raven: Demons invading Hamel seem abnormally strong compared to the demons that invaded Feita or Velder.
  • Penensio: We didn't encounter any other demons other than these, but we did think they were strangely powerful.
  • Chung: Yes. The first demons were definitely not as strong.
  • Eve: Maybe they used a medium like Feita's Durahan or Amethyst.
  • Elsword: Hmmm... Something's wrong...
  • Aisha: What now?
  • Elsword: Hmm... I feel like... I'm missing something.
  • Aisha: Again? Are you sure you didn't hit your head or something?
  • Elsword: Uh, maybe? Well... I guess I'll remember if it's anything important.

  • Eve: This waterway was created with ancient techniques. Perhaps one that even goes as far back as the one from early Elrian Kingdom era.
  • Raven: It does look very old. The giant mirror over there looks antique. What function does it serve? There are several of them.
  • Chung: It's a device to reflect light. They collect light to that building at the center over there.
  • Chung: Wait, but was it always at this angle...?
  • Eve: Oh! Wait, that's...
  • Aisha: Huh? Eve! Where are you doing?
  • (THUMP THUMP... CRACRACRACK!)
  • Chung: Look! A giant cogwheel is coming this way!
  • Rena: Watch out, Eve! You'll get hit!
  • Eve: Ah...!
  • (PZZZZTT--!)
  • Add: Hu, that was close... Kuhuhu you should watch out.
  • Elsword: Who is that?
  • Aisha: Eve! Alright?
  • Eve: Oh... I apologize. That giant cogwheel must be a device controlling the flow of water.
  • Rena: You surprised me. It isn't like you to go off on your own like that. What did you see? Is it because of that golem?
  • Eve: It's not a golem. It's technically a Nasod prototype, built long before father started building the 1st generation of Nasods. Though they weren't called Nasods back then.
  • Aisha: You mean it's an ancient Nasod? It does look more like a golem. But why are they at the waterway?
  • Eve: I believe they were built to guard and maintain the waterway. I was just happy to see a Nasod, even if we are vastly different...
  • Eve: Happy... yes, I was happy to see one. I'm sorry to worry you.
  • Add: Oh? An ancient Nasod? It's an old model, but perhaps it's worth analyzing.
  • Elsword: Hey, thanks for saving Eve. She could have been really hurt if it weren't for you. Are you headed to the waterway as well?
  • Add: Don't call me hey, or you. My name is Add. I just happened to pass by.
  • Chung: The access to this place had been long forbidden. It's crawling with dangerous things, so why don't you come with us back to Hamel?
  • Add: I do not need help. But... I won't refuse.
Quest Completion Dialogue
  • (STEP, STEP, STEP...)
  • Chung: We should be able to see Taranvash up ahead. Taranvash should know what to do about the rising water levels.
  • Taranvash: ...
  • Elsword: Is that... a holy beast?
  • Taranvash: ... Intruder.
  • Chung: Yes. Taranvash is the one who guards...
  • Chung: What?!
  • (CRASH!)
  • Chung: Ugh! Is everyone alright?!
  • Elesis: Thanks to you. But why did it attack?
  • (CCCRR... CRASH!)
  • Rena: We're not the only target. Look! The two holy beasts are fighting each other!
  • Add: Are the holy beasts of Hamel supposed to be twins? Just curious.
  • Chung: No! I don't understand... Do you think this is also the demons' doing?
  • Add: Hm... That means...
  • Add: ... It's the light?
  • Eve: I see. The mirror is collecting light and creating the beast's reflection!
  • Raven: Then we can get rid of the illusion by changing the direction of the mirrors.

  • Taranvash: Agh... It was only... an illusion...
  • Chung: Taranvash! Are you alright?
  • Rena: He seems to have regained his senses! Thank goodness... I didn't think the demons would harm holy beasts as well...
  • Chung: What did the demons do to you, Taranvash? I didn't think the demons would have infiltrated this far...!
  • Taranvash: Guardian, the demons are after the Water El. I was trying to stop them when they got me under their spell.
  • Chung: ... It's too late for the Water El, Taranvash. The demons took the Water El and the Priestess. There's no one at the temple anymore.
  • Taranvash: No, it's not too late. Guardian, the Water El is located in Hall of Water, hidden deep within the Water Temple. You need a Water Seal in order to enter.
  • Chung: A... Water Seal? You mean the symbol of a ruler?
  • Taranvash: That's just a purpose humans later bestowed. However, the Water Seal was not created for that purpose.
  • Taranvash: All Priestesses hold a prophecy pertaining to the World's Root. The Water Seal is a key to unleash that prophecy. Because of the importance of this prophecy, it is said that humans have passed down the Water Seal for generations to the most worthy.
  • Aisha: Then... The rising water levels was not because of the Water El. Now that the holy beast has regained his senses, maybe it will return back to normal?
  • Chung: Oh... no...
  • Chung: Lord Rod Ross is in danger!
